Instructions: This portion of the assignment is designed to help you focus the theoretical aspect of your paper.
On this document you should identify the theories that you will use to analyze and interpret your data. For example, most of you started out with your media artifact without knowing what aspects of society/culture would be salient. Now that you’ve engaged with your archive you should have identified what concepts related to sports/media and society make the most sense for you to engage with more deeply.
The deliverable should be an annotated bibliography. An annotated bibliography contains descriptive or evaluative comments on the sources you are working with in your research. Please follow correct citational formatting as appropriate. This source list follows the same form as the regular works cited page; however, your commentary follows the last period of the citation.
Your annotated bibliography should have at least 5 sources, of these at least 3 must be new readings (no repeats of course readings). The other two may be course readings.
Each part should be about 5-7 sentences:
Summarize: What are the main arguments? What is the point of this book or article? What topics are covered? If someone asked what this article/book is about, what would you say? The length of your annotations will determine how detailed your summary is.
Apply: How does this theory apply to your research? How does it help you shape your argument? How can you use this source to make sense of your data/findings? How will this source support the larger claims/arguments you are making about your findings?
