Assignment Overview: The students must generate a BEO (banquet event order) for the
chosen event, going in detail of the formal protocol required according to the event
characteristics.
Overall aim: To enable the students to demonstrate their understanding of protocol and
etiquette adapting them to the particular circumstances.
Learning outcomes:
1. Discern the difference between protocol and etiquette to determine its influence and impact.
2. Develop a professional image following high standard business etiquette.
3. Analyze codes of conduct for clients, suppliers, and planners; appraise the need for the use
on netiquette when appropriate.
4. Apply specific protocol procedures for diverse types of events.
5. Support delivery and reception of service with general Restaurant Etiquette.
6. Maintain international business relationships adopting cultural awareness skills.
Organisation and methodology:
The students will work individually, and they will design a BEO for one the following events:
A Presentation of credentials of the Ambassador of Morocco to the British Queen including
the following:
Presentation of credentials ceremony to the Queen.
Ambassador speech for attendees in a special room. Arrangement of seating for 20
people in theatre format. Explain seating set up.
Gala lunch for 20 attendees.
Culturally diverse wedding between a Hindi groom and a Spanish bride. The wedding will
take place in a hotel in Marbella close to the beach including the following services for 300
attendees:
Cocktail
Gala lunch
After meal drinks & entertainment.

A Business convention: Microsoft international annual shareholders’ convention for 1000
attendees including the following services:
Cocktail for special shareholders and CEO (50 pax)
Gala dinner for 800 pax with 50 different nationalities from around the world.
A Fundraising event for the Butterfly skin disease NGO, with the attendance of the USA
president including:
500 attendees
Gala dinner with multicultural attendance – a few Jewish and Muslim attendees have
been confirmed.
The project should use the following structure:
1. A Brief introduction of the overall idea of the event.
2. Highlighting of the main parts of the event of which the staff should take special
care.
3. A BEO that includes all the information required to deliver a successful event in
all the cases by the implied staff in each case. Everything should be explained in
a clear style with all the details needed, including set up schema, menus, and
special considerations.
4. Design of a briefing meeting for staff including the main departments that will
attend the briefing.
Word count:
The maximum word count should not exceed 5000 words, excluding references.
