Hello! Below I have attached a list of things my professor would like for us to touch on in regards to the
research paper. Essentially, it is a summary of the research paper. I have enclosed the link to the paper I have
chosen. Please include the trials as well as metanalysis in the summary, both are in the article enclosed.
Here is the link for the article: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31365111/
For the research study summaries:
1. Choose a peer reviewed (Respiratory Care journal or Pubmed) randomized controlled trial or metanalysis
from the last 5 years that has something to do with mechanical ventilation (2017 or newer)
2. Read the entire study
3. Summarize the study, use your own words, but be sure to interject some of the things we talked about in
class as well (how well powered, p value, control group, intervention group, etc.)
4.Tell me why you chose this study, what was it that specifically interested you and got your attention, did it
change how you thought about the topic they were researching?
5. Tell me what this study tells us, what did the authors of the study find? Did it show that the intervention was
successful? 6. What were the good and bad components of the study? (Most studies have a discussion section
or will talk about these things in the conclusion)
7. Would you recommend to a department manager that they make a practice change based on the results of
your study? Why or why not?
8.Tell me something you learned from this assignment
9. These will be graded on how thoroughly and how well you summarize the article and explain your
responses to the questions above, whether you include all the components mentioned above, and your analysis
of the information in the study. I want to know your thoughts on your article, so the more of your analysis and
thought process I see in the writing the better.
10. I want to see complete sentences and spell checking. This should be a clean and well put together
document when you submit it. I don't want the questions listed out with your answers after, paragraph form
with the answers woven in. Points will be deducted if you didn't make an effort to make this look and sound
good, read through it when you're done and make sure it sounds like what you want to say.
Ensure you address all points too avoid failing in class.
